The Career Accelerator – it’s been a journey
Launching the Career Accelerator in 2018 was a turning point for me and my career services. Inspired by a client who unknowingly stretched and tested me but ultimately gave me the push I needed.
At first, I’d played it safe by offering conventional career coaching services.

I’m a former executive search consultant – I’ve been recruiting and consulting for well-known fashion, luxury and lifestyle brands and retailers for over 25 years. That type of thing was easy for me.
Imagine having access to all my experience, 100s of searches, 1000s of interviews, and a glimpse behind the scenes of executive recruitment too. That’s how it started and then along came Jim. Let’s call him Jim because I’m a stickler for confidentiality.
Jim was a star. Bright, self-aware, articulate, strategic, and a high-achiever. He didn’t need help with his CV or LinkedIn, but his confidence had taken a knock and self-doubt was running the show. He’d put himself under incredible pressure and he wasn’t in a good place – he hired me for guidance, support and accountability.
Jim didn't need bells and whistles, he needed space to work it all out. He trusted me and I believed in him. This is how his transformation took shape:

Success is an inside job
I'm proud of the work we do together. One recent client, let's call her Sarah, has just landed a big C-suite sustainability role. It’s taken a year and I'm proud of how she handled that.
After a long and intense corporate career and then redundancy, Sarah was struggling to find her next role and she was burnt out.
We updated and modernised her CV and I helped her with her search strategy but learning how to rest and restore was the priority. You can't pitch yourself when you're frazzled!
We prepared for meetings and interviews, and then we debriefed. I was there through the disappointments and I helped her to stay on track with regular calls between our coaching sessions.
To go from a high-pressure job to being at home, ferrying kids around and wondering if you will ever land another job is stressful.
At times she was anxious but as she relaxed into the search her confidence came back and her luck changed.
She’s not the type to flatter but we had worked together for six months and she confided that she'd been attracted to my approach and found it fresh, different, deeper and even spiritual compared to others.
Unconventional coaching
I trained to be an unconventional coach in 2016.
What attracted me to this new school of thought was that rather than the coach holding power, quick fixes, tools and logical problem solving, this was client-led, a deep dive into self-enquiry and it blended emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and intuitive intelligence.
It made so much sense to me back then and I've been an unconventional coach ever since I launched the Career Accelerator.
