How bad do things need to get?

How bad do things need to get before you ask for help?

How long are you prepared to stick it out in a job that no longer fulfils you or in a company culture that does not align with your values?

How many weeks, months, or even years need to pass before you acknowledge that things aren’t working for you anymore?

Some days are ok, and some days flow but others are miserable and unbearable.

I know how it feels.

I was trapped

When I felt trapped in the hamster wheel, I just peddled harder.

I was tested

When I said that I needed a career break, my nerve and ego were tested. I was headhunted and I took the bait. I knew I was stalling but I couldn’t help myself.

I quit

Three years later I quit. Trying to juggle a high-pressured job, long hours, keep up the hard peddling, menopause, anxiety and worrying about my mother’s health was too much. I had a pot of money for a rainy day and it was raining.

I hired a coach

Quitting was both terrifying and exciting. My gut said yes, but my ego said absolutely no way!

I hired a coach to help me navigate the transition and fear of the unknown.

I worried

About walking away from my career, status, my identity and everything I’d built and created.

I healed

Was it a midlife career crisis, burnout or both? I stepped away from my career, went on holiday and retreated, did loads of yoga classes and took afternoon naps.

I created

You can’t be creative when you are frazzled and stressed out. After six months of rest, I was ready to create.

I made peace

Knowing that the experience I’ve gained is mine and I take it with me wherever I go.

I coach
